The latter promote the growth of <strong>fungi <\/strong>in the crops, raw materials, and stored feeds, which makes the <strong>monitorization of contamination levels <\/strong>and the <strong>implementation of effective prevention techniques <\/strong>essential to maintain health and performance in animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is also a general increase of some viral infections such as the <strong>Newcastle disease<\/strong>. <strong>Coccidiosis and necrotic enteritis <\/strong>are very frequent, too, because of the high humidity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the contrary, in the <strong>Southern hemisphere<\/strong>, temperatures continue to rise until summer. Fungi like <strong><em>Penicillium, Aspergillus <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>Fusarium <\/em><\/strong>grow in these conditions and cause problems such as gizzard and digestive mycoses. They also produce mycotoxins like aflatoxins and ochratoxins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Analysis by geographic areas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In October of 2021, the following issues were described in poultry and pig farms in the different world areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00b7 Asia<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In East Asia, there is a raising concern about zoonotic bacteria like <strong><em>E. coli <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>Campylobacter<\/em><\/strong>, particularly in <strong>layer <\/strong>farms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this area, <strong>foot-pad dermatitis <\/strong>related with predisposing factors was observed. It was related to <strong>high moisture <\/strong>in the <strong>litter<\/strong>, poor-quality bed materials and the use of diets with low concentration of biotin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In South Asia, <strong>coccidiosis in breeders <\/strong>at the end of the production period is one of the major issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00b7 Russia and Ukraine<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cold fronts <\/strong>have affected the area during the last month and caused an increase in the prevalence of <strong>respiratory disorders <\/strong>in poultry farms, such as <strong>infectious bronchitis, Newcastle disease and influenza. <\/strong>Besides, the sharp decrease in temperature and high humidity levels made <strong>coccidiosis and necrotic enteritis <\/strong>outbreaks more frequent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00b7 Europe<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The percentage of <strong>dirty eggs <\/strong>in <strong>layer and breeder <\/strong>farms, especially since week 60 of age, was a relevant problem this month. It is related to rapid gut transit and disbalances of the gut flora, which lead to watery feces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eggshell problems <\/strong>were reported, too, probably due to poorly formulated diets with low amounts of available calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals and an unoptimized calcium absorption and metabolism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Streptococcus <\/em><\/strong>caused secondary infections in <strong>pigs <\/strong>affected by the <strong>porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome<\/strong>, a vertically transmitted disease that causes immunosuppression. <strong>Hemorrhagic intestinal syndrome<\/strong> is a concerning problem as well that is related to disbalances of the gut flora that affects pigs at the end of the fattening period and causes sudden death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00b7 USA<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The season with the highest prevalence of <strong>coccidiosis and necrotic enteritis <\/strong>starts, which are related since coccidiosis is a predisposing factor for necrotic enteritis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cocci vaccines <\/strong>are a broadly used prevention mechanism in US poultry farms; however, in the moths with highest humidity, <strong>outbreaks continue to occur <\/strong>despite vaccination. That is why there is an interest towards finding tools that <strong>complement vaccination to obtain a greatest protection.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Low temperatures lead to <strong>immunosuppression <\/strong>and, consequently, vaccination failure. That is why farmers look for <strong>ways to improve the efficacy of vaccines <\/strong>against viral diseases (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.veterinariadigital.com\/en\/post_blog\/newcastle-disease\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Newcastle disease<\/a>, Marek\u2019s disease and Gumboro diseases in poultry, and porcine epidemic diarrhea in pigs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00b7 Latin America<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>layers<\/strong>, <strong>dysbacteriosis <\/strong>and <strong>rapid intestinal transit <\/strong>are in the agenda, and they increase the percentage of dirty eggs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Colitis <\/strong>associated to <em>Brachyspira <\/em>and proliferative enteritis associated to <em>Lawsonia intracellularis <\/em>are two highly prevalent diseases in <strong>pig <\/strong>farms in North and Central America. They have severe economic consequences as the affected animals are pigs at the latter stages of the fattening period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, pig producers look for mechanisms to prevent the <strong>hemorrhagic intestinal syndrome <\/strong>intended to control the balance of the gut flora and prevent the overgrowth of enterobacteria and clostridia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00b7 Africa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rapid transit <\/strong>is a problem in <strong>broiler <\/strong>farms as it increases litter moisture, making <strong>foot-pad dermatitis <\/strong>and<strong> coccidiosis <\/strong>more frequent and increasing <strong>ammonia <\/strong>production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides, chicks suffer the consequences of <strong>toxic infectious hepatoenteritis <\/strong>(HETI) in the first week of life, which include high mortality rates after the first week and lower weights at the end of the production period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Heat stress <\/strong>is also present in some areas of the continent, causing an increase in prevalence of broken eggs and bone problems in poultry, such as cage fatigue syndrome (layers) and the breaking of the femoral head (broilers).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>quality of raw materials <\/strong>and their role as a source of infection worries producers and nutritionists because they are contaminated with <strong><em>Salmonella<\/em><\/strong>, particularly soybean oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"599\" src=\"https:\/\/www.globalvetslab.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Captura-de-pantalla-2021-12-09-a-las-8.20.09-1024x599.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.deltalabs.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Captura-de-pantalla-2021-12-09-a-las-8.20.09-1024x599.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.deltalabs.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Captura-de-pantalla-2021-12-09-a-las-8.20.09-300x175.png 300w, https:\/\/www.deltalabs.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Captura-de-pantalla-2021-12-09-a-las-8.20.09-768x449.png 768w, https:\/\/www.deltalabs.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Captura-de-pantalla-2021-12-09-a-las-8.20.09-1536x898.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.deltalabs.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Captura-de-pantalla-2021-12-09-a-las-8.20.09.png 1940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General analysis Low temperature and high humidity levels start to settle in the Northern hemisphere.
